Modiﬁed- release preparations are available as 12-hourly or 24-hourly formulations. Preparations that should be given 12-hourly include Abtard ®, Carexil ®, Ixyldone ®, Leveraxo ®, Longtec ®, Oxeltra ®, OxyContin ®, Oxypro ®, Oxylan ®, Reltebon ®, and Renocontin ®. Preparations that should be given 24-hourly include Onexila ® XL. Nervous system Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) decisions SMC No. 125/04 The Scottish Medicines Consortium has advised (October 2004) that oxycodone (OxyNorm ®) injection is accepted for restricted use within NHS Scotland for the treatment of moderate to severe pain in patients with cancer who have difﬁculty in tolerating morphine or diamorphine. SMC No. 197/05 The Scottish Medicines Consortium has advised (September 2005) that oxycodone (OxyContin ®) 5 mg, 10 mg, 20 mg, 40 mg and 80 mg prolonged release tablets are accepted for restricted use within NHS Scotland for the treatment of severe non-malignant pain in patients in whom controlled release morphine sulphate is ineffective or not tolerated. SMC No. 648/10 The Scottish Medicines Consortium has advised (November 2010) that oxycodone hydrochloride (OxyNorm ®) 50 mg/mL injection is accepted for restricted use within NHS Scotland for the treatment of moderate to severe pain in patients with cancer who have difﬁculty in tolerating morphine or diamorphine.
